Karlsen hardware

Karlsen physical consists of 5 racks, 4 Origin 2000 system racks, and one rack for disk storage. Each system rack is partitioned into two modules, and each module contains 4 Nodeboards. A Nodeboard contains 2 Mips R12000 CPUs, 2 GB memory, caches and I/O ports.

The 4 Nodeboards in a module are connected together by a switch, allowing multiple communications among the CPUs and memory to take place simultanously. The individual modules are connected together by 1.6 GB/s Craylinks (cables). The architecture is called ccNUMA (cache-coherency Non Uniform Memory Access).
