  Installed 173 SUN nodes in June 2006 - retired in November 2009
  Added 95 Dell sc1435 nodes in August 2007.
  Added 335 SUN x2200 nodes in January 2009.
  Added 20 Supermicro GPU nodes in November 2009.
  Added 196 HP DL1000 nodes in December 2009.

• Each SC1435: 2 2.6 GHz DualCore Opteron w. 8 GB memory and 250 GB SATA disk.
• 310 x2200: 2 2.3 GHz QuadCore Opteron w. 16 GB memory and 500 GB SATA disk.
• 25 x2200: 2 2.3 GHz QuadCore Opteron w. 32 GB memory and 2 TB SATA disk.
• 17 of the 335 SUN Fire x2200 nodes are placed at Danmarks Statistik
• Each Supermicro server: 2.6 GHz QuadCore Intel Nehalem w. 24 GB memory 1 TB SATA disk and 2 Nvidia Tesla M1060 GPUs.
• Each HP DL1000: 2.6 GHz QuadCore Intel Nehalem w. 24 GB memory 1 TB SATA disk.
• The Dell and SUN servers have gigE cluster infrastructure,
  the HP and Supermicro has QDR/sDR Infiniband.
• 100 Mb/s management infrastructure.
• Filesystem: ca. 45 TB user-filesystem on 3 EONstor raid systems.
• Power supply: 80 kVA G.E. UPS from Scanpocon, Odense.
• The name Grendel is from the Nordic Mythologi:
  Grendel was a giant and he and Beowulf had a fight. Allthough Grendel
  had immunty to swords, at last he was killed by Beowulf - by a sword
  forged by giants.

• Batchsystem: Torque and Maui
• Scratch: Only available for running jobs on executionnodes.
• Backup: Incremental backup of the userfilesystem every night.
